Discovering Music...

I love music. I always seem to have something running in my head. Sometimes I imagine that this is the soundtrack of my life - like if I was in a movie. Wouldn't that be cool? Okay, most days, not so much, but I do really enjoy music.

I get excited when I find a new band to listen to. I don't care if they are "current" or whatever, just new to me. NPR radio shows have helped me discover so many bands I would never have come across otherwise.

Today, it was Midlake, a band out of Texas. I love, love, love them. There are releasing a new album at the beginning of next month and I have it pre-ordered on iTunes already. I'm in the process of downloading their last album - Trials of Van Occupanther. Check them out on iTunes or Myspace.

Their sound is described as psychedelic folk in one of the reviews I saw - which would have scared me a bit, if I hadn't already heard a preview of them on the radio. It's fabulous.

I like to be diverse in my musical selection, but I definitely have a tendency to focus on a genre or particular type of sound for a while before moving on to something and then integrating whatever I find into my collection.

These guys fit right in with what I've been jamming to lately. Iron and Wine, Peter, Bjorn and John, Rob Thomas, Josh Groban, Pearl Jam, Gin Blossoms, to name a few. Maybe those don't really all fit together but in my world they do.

I can't wait until the whole thing is downloaded and I really start listening to them.

Nothing better than music. I can't help but play Dave Matthews all day long.

I love Dave Matthews! Under the Table and Dreaming was one of the first two cds that I bought when I first left home.

Listening to that album reminds me of unpacking in my new apartment and setting up my first place away from home. I love those memories!

It's Saturday! And that means it's time for Five Senses Friday... Thanks so much to Abby Try Again for sharing this wonderful idea! Seeing: My art teacher's house at a BBQ tonight. Today, a completely random thought post. Including a completely random photo that has nothing to do with what I am saying. I just like to have pictures in my posts, I think it makes them pretty...=) The wind has finally died down and I am really looking forward to a walk tonight after my second to last ever math class! Have I mentioned that I am excited to be done with the class!?! No, well I am! The professor is one of those people who thinks he is funny, but really is not. He is also one of those people who thinks jokes make the class more fun, but has not the timing for such a thing. As a result, the class is primarily uncomfortable and full of awkward silences. Zeitgeist and the month of December…

makes I am planning to blog through the month of December, you know one of those blog everyday kind of clubs.  I like the idea of them a lot – though I’m not promising anything spectacular, because I tend to get sidetracked a lot, but I am planning to blog at least a little. I wasn’t even going to bother attempting another one of these things – the dismal failures and the guilt, the added stress from the guilt, who needs it really!?! I suppose if I actually made it all the way through I’d feel pretty awesome but it’s all good. Actually, what most excited me about this blog all the month thing was the theme – Zeitgeist – isn’t that just one of the coolest words ever? It just sounds cool.  I am thinking of adopting it as my theme for 2011 – I’m not joking, I like it that much.
